SEEING OUT THE YEAR
It's been an absorbing year at scrapbook central. Kind of feels like so much was achieved, yet in the context of my goals, very little elucidated. Still the highlights, including the writing and release of fundraising single 'Don't Give Up Now' , an amazing national tour alongside Lars Wallin and his tribe, plus the challenging and extraordinary two weeks spent with my best mates, The Nordeens, learning old school U2 (pre iTunes debacle) and even older school 'deens tracks; all made the year worth the hefty levy of partaking.
What better way to finish off the year than playing a show supporting one of my heroines! The amazing Allannah Russack, who some of you may know as the female lead singer of 90's wonder group The Hummingbirds, at one of my favourite venues: The Wesley Anne. Details to the right. Come down, toast a spiced rum with your old mate Musto and celebrate the year that was watching an Aussie folk pop icon! (and me).
So I imagine, three or maybe even five people out there in cyber world may be asking, what will I have to offer in 2015? Well the plan is to at least deliver on my 2014 promises to finish and release a Nordeens record, to finish and release a College Fall record and to finish and release a Scrapbook record. All this plus I shall continue working on amazing indie pop project Golden Rail involving WA and VIC rock royalty Jeff Baker, Ian Freeman and Danny McDonald... and then, as if I don't have enough to promise, there is semi-regular shitchat occurring re getting my first band back in a room together - Showbag - spend a week throwing a bunch of lo-fi catchy pop and silly lyrics about hatching lizards and eating horses, together, and making an album or two. Now that would be fun!

DON’T GIVE UP NOW
Glenn Musto has always had a knack for penning a tune. The former College Fall, Nordeens and Showbag frontman has been one of Perth's most prolific and successful songwriters since popping up with a bang in the early 2000s, and new single Don't Give Up Now is one of his absolute best. A daydreamy, hook-filled pop waltz that abruptly turns itself into a sing-along rock song.
Self produced, Don't Give Up Now is hard to place in terms of Musto's past work, as it is more or less a collection of all of the best aspects of each era: the sweetness and charm of Showbag, the depth of College Fall and the swagger of The Nordeens... all wrapped up in Glenn's unmistakable melodies and vocal twang. His lyrics as authentic and soulful as ever.
Released on 13 July 2014 Don't Give Up Now will be available (CD and digital) on iTunes and Bandcamp, with all proceeds being donated to the incredible organisation Love Me Love You, who deal with young people facing mental health and substance abuse issues (lovemeloveyou.org.au).
An absolute veteran of the road with a passport full of stamps, Musto will of course be using the release of Don't Give Up Now as an excuse to tour, heading out across Australia with incredible Swedish talent Lars Wallin, who embarked upon several European tours with College Fall (after first meeting them at a show for the Danish Royal Family). Between Musto's uplifting acoustic indie and Wallin's incredible Indigenous Australian-influenced Nordic folk, this tour will be a music lover's dream.

MUSTO BURNS THE NORDEENS BACK TO LIFE For almost a decade, the long-standing Perth music community has been hassling The Nordeens to reunite, play some shows and release their Chinese Democracy of an album... and the band is finally answering the call. Kinda. Returning on Thursday, August 7, the classic Nordeens three-piece lineup of Glenn Musto, Matt Geary and Ant Milne will be joined by Saskwatch guitarist Rob Muinos, taking the Newport stage once more to perform U2's War album in its entirety, plus a handful of their own fan favourites. An odd comeback, for sure, but the first of several, according to the band, who have plans to finish their long overdue album (read: 10 years) in July, aiming to launch in the summer of 2015. So thing are moving along. Of course, aside from The Nordeens, the core lineup of Musto, Geary and Milne have been far from idle this past decade. Musto has recorded and toured the world with his wife in their critically-acclaimed duo, College Fall; Geary has been a pivotal member of several beloved Perth bands such as The Ghost Hotel; and Milne has kept busy away from the bright lights of the stage, touring the country and occasionally the world in various production and technical roles. So while The Nordeens might be a name with some dust on it, the chaps are more than ready to crack their ageing knuckles and get the job done. So while this is not quite the Nordeens reunion fans have been demanding, it's a step in the right direction. And, if nothing else, this will be a rare treat of being able to listen to some classic U2 without also having to listen to Bono. ;-) The Record Club Newport Hotel Thursday, August 7 2014 U2 War, performed by The Nordeens WEDNESDAY 16 APRIL 2014 15:56
STUDIOUS, PONDEROUS AND ANONYMOUS - A COLLEGE FALL UPDATE A year into an extended, possibly permanent, hiatus, ethereal folk pop duo College Fall, of which Glenn is the bitter biting half, tell a story so authentically synonymous with their own lives, that it makes their music simultaneously captivating and extremely difficult to listen to. With Glenn's edgier songwriting juxtaposed by partner Jodie's sweet and soothing sounds, the band have delivered two unique and diverse long players (listen to on the left there), one in 2007 and the follow up in 2010. A third LP, tentatively and quite aptly titled "Lost" has been three years in production. Unfortunately the band has faced numerous difficulties, both personally and musically, (which will probably be clarified once this album is released and the lyrical content is sternly digested). It has affected their time and ability to complete the record - which is a shame, as Glenn and Jodie are both on record saying that they were more excited about the content in "Lost" than they ever had ever been about a project. Perhaps the content is a little too close to the bone this time? Or perhaps they have just become late season slackers - as we should expect from Gen X/Y crossover types. Or perhaps other aspects of life started demanding their importance. One day we might get to hear it, but sadly right now it is unclear if and when "Lost" will ever actually be found. Meantime though you can listen to (and purchase if you're that way inclined) the bands back catalogue at www.collegefallband.bandcamp.com Including: For more info on College Fall - head to www.collegefall.com WEDNESDAY 16 APRIL 2014 16:42 WHERE IT ALL BAG'AN For the hard-core history buff's, you can also find a previous incarnation of Glenn and Jodie's work together, in the form of early noughties Perth-pop supergroup Showbag. LP "The Town We Loved In" was released in 2003 and made quite a splash on Australian shores and the wave crashed a little bit on the Cali side of the pacific as well. Purchase The Town We Loved CD Here Downloadable versions of the Glenn Musto back catalogue will be available at Glenn's band camp site very soon. MONDAY 14 OCTOBER 2013 14:37 AEST
ANNOUNCING THE MATTHEWS AND MUSTO ROAD SHOW! For full show details head to the TOUR page Two of Australia's most respected and hard working musicians come together for one night of fantastic music, ripping yarns and simply, a really great time. Two men and two guitars with thirty years of incredible musical knowledge and unique artistic development. From Chris Matthews' virtuoso guitar skills to Glenn Musto's effortless pop sensibility. From Matthews' organic outback storytelling to Musto's heart-on-your sleeve audience connection. It's a show that offers something very unique and special that people from all walks of life can enjoy. Chris Matthews Taking a pinch of folk, a decent sprinkling of country, generous proportions of good foot stompin' rock and roll, a large spoonful of rollicking bar room roots, some incendiary guitar work and topping it all off with sheer brute force and passion, Chris Matthews has become recognised as one of Australia’s finest musical talents. His remarkable skills on 6 and 12 string guitars, banjo and lap steel have amazed audiences from Broome to Batemans Bay, and his live shows have become legendary for their astonishing guitar work, combined with intelligent song writing and entertaining off the cuff stage banter. Armed with the afore mentioned instruments, a stomp box to drive the beat home and an impassioned and solid voice that could only come from the land of Australia, he is one of those performers who once seen, is one you never forget. www.chrismatthewsmusic.com www.facebook.com/chrissomatthews Chris' latest album "It Goes To Eleven" is available at: https://itunes.apple.com/au/album/it-goes-to-eleven/id450239860 Glenn Musto Musto's show has been described as complementing the pop sensibility of Crowded House with a hint of local grit, a heart-on-your sleeve stage presence and endearing acoustic interpretations of his adroit recording style. And don't forget his Scrapbook! - which he expertly uses to ask the audience to write lyrics for him, keeping them engaged all night. He has been a touring musician for fifteen years (including a recent performance for Danish royalty!) and his songs have received strong airplay on radio including Triple J and Nova. He has developed a bijou yet committed fan base through his authentic and connected song-writing, nurtured by a complicated upbringing in Australia's remote western heartland and honed through some incredible musical experiences in many of the great and small patches of the planet. www.glennmusto.com www.facebook.com/glennmusto Glenn Musto's new album "#12 Sensitive" is available at: http://glennmusto.bandcamp.com/album/mustos-scrapbook-12-sensitive TUESDAY 4 JUNE 2013 17:39 AEST
LOCAL INDIE POP STAR RETURNS TO HIS ROOTS WITH FANFARE USUALLY RESERVED FOR SUCCESSFUL FOOTY TEAMS After fifteen years forging a musical career with indie pop bands College Fall and Showbag, Glenn Musto has kept the faith and recorded himself a CD all of his own. A Scrapbook of audio tim tams conceived during 2012, some inspiring classic pop, some experimental. Glenn will be celebrating with a live acoustic performance at The Paddo on Wednesday 19th June. Expect him to force the audience to write lyrics for him, speak with far too much passion about his love of Swedish pop and muse about his one true love: Benson the Shar-Pei x Lab. He might even play a few songs as well. Helping him out on the night will be rock and roll war horse and all round WA music legend Chris Gibbs and exceptional up and comer Trojan John. Following the launch, Glenn will be touring his beloved home state for a good month. Dandor Karlstrovic Preamp Mag THURSDAY 30 MAY 2013 12:12 AEST
DUO FAIL COLLEGE Glenn Musto and his partner in musical crime Jodie Lee Bartlett will come together in front of a small band of Melbourne hipsters for the final duo performance of College Fall at an old church, now called the Wesley Anne, in the gentrified latte suburb of Northcote. It's not all finished for the duo however as they are still threatening to play one last show in their home village of Perth, Western Australia if enough people badger them about it. They have also promised to release a long awaited third long player some time in 2014 but only if they can find three more people prepared to put up with them at rehearsal for three hours a week, so they can put together a five piece band super-group celebration show. Meantime however, they are laying to rest an eight year odyssey around the globe, preaching their 'how hard is love' songs over five hundred times to anyone who'd listen... the most notable being; her Royal Highness the princess of Denmark and his Royal Highness John (Mountain Goat) Darnielle. The least notable being; a strangely bearded sea shanty guy in the small town of Odder who insisted on calling Jodie Judy and a seventy five year old crusty dude ignoring the amorous affections of his eighteen year old girlfriend to watch the Fall tear it up in the coastal town of Hastings.
