CONNECTION TO COUNTRY: Creating a Sanctuary
Guidance for creating a sanctuary, caring for Country and building a holistic way of life
What would it look like to create a life that is more deeply connected to animals, Country, nature, community and the things that genuinely bring us happiness?
Creating a sanctuary is not simply about acquiring land and rescuing animals. It is about developing a living relationship with place and creating the conditions for people, animals and the natural world to thrive together.
Through many years of creating and living within the Sanctuary of Sentient Beings, I have developed a practical and holistic understanding of what is involved in bringing this kind of vision into reality.
This personalised Elemental Zen consultation is an opportunity to explore your own vision for creating a sanctuary, whether you are at the very beginning of an idea, looking for property, preparing to welcome animals or already living on land and wanting to develop it into something more meaningful and sustainable.

Where appropriate, the consultation can also include practical resources, ideas, frameworks and connections to help you take your vision forward.
The aim is not to provide a rigid blueprint for creating a sanctuary. Every place, person, animal and landscape is different.
Instead, we explore the principles, possibilities and practical considerations that can help you create something that is genuinely your own.
The Sanctuary of Sentient Beings has developed through real experience: caring for rescued animals, restoring land, removing invasive weeds such as serrated tussock, planting and protecting native vegetation, creating habitat, working with volunteers, developing infrastructure, navigating the realities of funding and governance, and learning what it really takes to care for a place and its beings over the long term.
This offering brings that lived experience together with the Elemental Zen philosophy of conscious, compassionate and connected living.
